Gambrill House, a Second Empire brick mansion built in 1872 near Frederick, Maryland, stands within the Monocacy National Battlefield. Constructed for James Gambrill, a prosperous mill owner who operated both Araby Mill and Frederick City Mill, the house was furnished with luxurious amenities unusual for its era, including hot and cold running water, imported Italian marble fireplaces, gas lamps, and a coal furnace. Financial difficulties forced Gambrill to relinquish the property and his mills in 1893. The National Park Service acquired the house in 1983 and converted it to house the NPS Historic Preservation Training Center. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
