Located in Crawfordsville, Indiana, the General Lew Wallace Study & Museum preserves the workspace and legacy of the author of *Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ* (1880). Designed by Wallace himself in Byzantine Revival style, the study and its accompanying carriage house represent the only structures directly associated with Wallace that maintain their historical integrity. Designated a National Historic Landmark in 1976, the museum displays artifacts from Wallace's lifetime and objects connected to his literary achievements. The study is open to the public via guided tours; the Carriage House Interpretive Center and grounds are freely accessible. In 2008, the museum received a National Medal from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, and it stands within the Elston Grove Historic District.
