The Genex Tower, or Western City Gate, is a 36-story brutalist skyscraper in Belgrade designed by Mihajlo Mitrović and completed in 1980. Standing 117 meters tall—or 135–140 meters including its revolving restaurant—the structure comprises two towers connected by a two-story bridge, deliberately conceived to resemble a monumental gate welcoming visitors arriving from the west. Originally, one tower housed the state-owned Genex Group, from which the building takes its popular name, while the other serves residential purposes. Though controversial during its design and construction, the tower remained Serbia's tallest building for 42 years until 2021 and is now recognized as an iconic landmark of New Belgrade. Declared a cultural monument in November 2021, the building is praised as an "urban lighthouse" and exemplar of avant-garde architecture, though the revolving restaurant mechanism never became operational and the Genex-occupied tower now stands vacant.
