Grand Central Terminal, located at 42nd Street and Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, is a Beaux-Arts commuter rail station designed by the architectural firms Reed and Stem and Warren and Wetmore and completed in 1913. The terminal serves as the southern terminus of the Metro-North Railroad's Harlem, Hudson, and New Haven Lines, and connects to the Long Island Rail Road and New York City Subway. With 48 acres and 44 platforms—more than any other railroad station in the world—it ranks as North America's third-busiest train station. The building's distinctive Beaux-Arts design, enriched with numerous artworks, has earned it designation as a National Historic Landmark and recognition as one of the world's ten most-visited tourist attractions. Beyond its primary function, Grand Central houses restaurants, shops, a library, event hall, and offices, while its soaring Main Concourse has become an iconic gathering place and frequent subject of films and television.
