La Grande Arche is a 110-metre-high cubic monument and office building completed in 1989 in the La Défense business district west of Paris, designed by Erik Reitzel and Johan Otto von Spreckelsen. Originally titled "La Grande Arche de la Fraternité," the structure aligns with Paris's historic perspective extending from the Louvre through the Arc de Triomphe, situated 4 kilometres from the latter. Conceived as one of President François Mitterrand's Grands Projets, the building merges the monumental ambitions of a triumphal arch with the functional demands of contemporary office space, earning recognition for its remarkable contemporary architecture.
