The Grand Mosque of Medan, also known as Masjid Raya Al-Mashun, stands in Medan, Indonesia, as a striking synthesis of Mughal and Moorish architectural traditions. Built between 1906 and completed in 1909, the mosque originally formed part of the adjoining Maimun palace complex. Its design blends Middle Eastern, Indian, and Spanish elements into a distinctive octagonal structure, with wings extending to the cardinal directions—south, east, north, and west—creating a commanding presence in the urban landscape.
