Situated on Mount Tiantai in Zhejiang Province, the Guoqing Temple is a Buddhist sanctuary originally established in 598 CE during the Sui dynasty, with significant renovations undertaken during the Qing Yongzheng Emperor's reign (1722–1735). The temple served as the birthplace of the Tiantai school of Mahāyāna Buddhism, founded by the revered teacher Zhiyi. Spanning approximately 23,000 square meters and comprising 600 rooms distributed across 14 halls, the complex showcases traditional Chinese architecture embellished with multiple pagodas, including the historic Sui Pagoda and the Memorial Pagoda of the eighth-century monk Yi Xing. Among its notable interior spaces are the Mahavira Hall of Sakyamuni, the Hall of Five Hundred Arhats, and the Hall of Monk Jigong. Today, it holds status as both a Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the National Level and a National Key Buddhist Temple in the Han Chinese Area.
