Designed by Austrian architect Hans Hollein and completed in 1990, the Haas House is a postmodern shopping center located at Stock-im-Eisen-Platz in Vienna's Inniere Stadt district. Built on the site of the former Philipp Haas & Söhne department store—which dated to 1867, was destroyed during World War II, and was briefly rebuilt in 1953—the structure combines retail and restaurant uses. The building has generated considerable controversy for its stark contemporary aesthetic, which contrasts sharply with the neighboring Stephansdom cathedral. In 2014, Austrian catering company Do & Co acquired the building, establishing it as their headquarters.
