The Hassan Bey Mosque in Constantine, Algeria, is a Moorish structure completed in 1730 that originally served as the Souk El Ghezel Mosque. Following the French colonial conquest, the building was converted into the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows from 1838 to 1962, fundamentally altering its religious function for over a century. After Algerian independence, it was restored to mosque use in 1962 and now stands as a designated cultural heritage monument, embodying the architectural and religious transformations that shaped Constantine's urban landscape.
