Designed by Alvar Aalto, the Helsinki University of Technology Main Building stands in Otaniemi as a landmark of Finnish modernism. Completed in phases—the initial structure finished in 1965 and an extension housing major auditoriums added in 1975—the building served as the focal point of the university campus. Aalto also designed the accompanying library building, completed in 1969. Together with the library, the main building forms a nationally significant cultural heritage site and remains central to the Otaniemi campus, now housing the Aalto University Undergraduate Center following the institution's reorganization and subsequent renovation.
