Located in Helsinki, the University Observatory was designed by Carl Ludvig Engel and completed in 1834 to serve the University of Helsinki's Department of Astronomy. Now a museum and visitor centre devoted to astronomy, the building is protected both by the city plan and by Finland's Decree 480/85, with its interior similarly safeguarded. The structure remained the department's home until 2009, when it transitioned to its current public-facing role.
