Designed by Carl Ludvig Engel and completed in 1819, the Vartiovuori Observatory is a neoclassical structure perched atop Vartiovuori Hill in Turku, Finland, commanding views across the city centre. Originally built to serve the Royal Academy of Turku, the observatory ceased operations following the Great Fire of Turku in 1827, when the academy and its astronomical instruments relocated to Helsinki. Today the building, protected under Finnish architectural heritage law, is owned by the Åbo Akademi University Foundation and repurposed as office space.
