The Holy Trinity Cathedral stands at the heart of the Russian Compound in central Jerusalem, a Russian Orthodox cathedral built between 1860 and 1872 during the Ottoman period. Designed by architect Martin Eppinger in the Byzantine Revival style, the structure rises in sandstone and exemplifies the architectural ambitions of the Russian Orthodox Ecclesiastical Mission that commissioned it. Today recognized as a heritage site in Israel, the cathedral remains a significant monument to nineteenth-century Orthodox Christian presence in the Holy Land.
