Perched on a hillside in Berat's Kalaja district, the Holy Trinity Church is a medieval Byzantine Orthodox structure that exemplifies the architectural synthesis of its era. Built during the 13th or 14th century with the patronage of Andronikos Angelos Palaiologos, the provincial governor from 1302 to 1326, the church displays a cross-shaped plan crowned by a dome. Its interior comprises a nave, narthex, and altar alcove, enriched with sophisticated Byzantine features including carefully orchestrated spatial organization and decorative lighting systems. The pyramidal massing and proportions lend the building its distinctive picturesque quality. Byzantine architectural principles are skillfully merged with contemporary Western elements, while two columns with reused classical capitals—likely salvaged from ruins within the city—testify to the church's integration into Berat's layered history. As part of the Historic Centres of Berat and Gjirokastër UNESCO World Heritage Site, it remains a designated Cultural Monument of Albania.
