Standing on the Place de la Concorde in Paris's 8th arrondissement, the Hôtel de la Marine is a masterwork of Louis Quinze architecture designed by Ange-Jacques Gabriel and constructed between 1757 and 1774. Originally built as the Hôtel du Garde-Meuble to house the royal office responsible for furnishing all royal properties, the building was paired with an identical structure across the street (now the Hôtel de Crillon). Following the Revolution, it became the Ministry of the Navy, a role it maintained until 2015. After comprehensive renovation from 2015 to 2021, the building now showcases restored eighteenth-century apartments of the King's Intendant, period salons, naval chambers, and the Al Thani Collection of international artworks. Classified as a historical monument and managed by the Centre des monuments nationaux, it has housed the Foundation for the Remembrance of Slavery since 2019.
