Hotel House, a rationalist apartment building completed in 1968 in Porto Recanati, Italy, accommodates approximately 2,000 residents—roughly one-fifth of the town's population—across 480 units located some 25 kilometers from the regional capital Ancona. The structure houses a highly transient and internationally diverse population, with 90 percent of inhabitants foreign-born, representing forty different nationalities; the building's seasonal fluctuations are pronounced, swelling considerably during summer months. Porto Recanati's foreign-born population of 21.9 percent, largely concentrated in Hotel House, represents the highest proportion in the Marche region and among Italy's highest. The building carries a troubled reputation locally, notorious as a site associated with crime and narcotics trafficking; in April 2018, police discovered human remains in a well near the structure during a drug investigation, later identified as belonging to a teenager missing since 2010.
