House VI, also known as the Frank Residence, is a small getaway house in Cornwall, Connecticut, designed by architect Peter Eisenman and completed in 1975. Eisenman's second built work, the house sits on Great Hollow Road near Bird's Eye Brook, across from Mohawk Mountain Ski Area. Conceived through a formalist, conceptual process that Eisenman termed "postfunctionalism"—where design emerged from abstract ideas rather than functional requirements—the building became revolutionary in its redefinition of domestic space. At the time, Eisenman was primarily known as a theorist and "paper architect," and his limited construction experience proved consequential: poor detailing, budget overruns, and structural challenges extended the three-year building process, necessitating substantial reconstruction in 1987. Despite these difficulties, the owners affirmed their attachment to the poetic residence, inhabiting it with their children alongside a guest barn on the property.
