The James J. Hill House, completed in 1891 in Saint Paul, Minnesota, stands as the former mansion of railroad magnate James J. Hill near the Cathedral of Saint Paul. Designed by the architectural firm Peabody and Stearns in the Richardsonian Romanesque style, the residence encompasses 36,000 square feet of living area within its 44,552 square feet of total space, making it one of the most substantial private homes of its era. Regarded during Hill's lifetime as the "showcase of St. Paul," the house is now operated as a museum by the Minnesota Historical Society and holds designations as both a National Historic Landmark and a contributing property to the Historic Hill District.
