Located at the corner of 4th and Commerce Streets in Palacios, Texas—a Gulf coast town once promoted as a seaside resort—the R. J. Hill Building is a two-story commercial structure completed in 1910 from cast concrete blocks manufactured on-site. Its Richardsonian Romanesque design incorporates distinctive classical detailing, including columns with entasis, bulbous bases, hypotrachelia, and blocky square-profile capitals. Positioned just a block from Tres Palacios Bay, the building represents an early-twentieth-century experiment in concrete construction and commercial architecture. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009, it was subsequently adapted by the Palacios Area Historical Association for use as a museum.
