Perched atop Mount Ještěd near Liberec in the Czech Republic, this 94-meter television transmitter and hotel combines functional broadcast infrastructure with hospitality in a striking hyperboloid form of reinforced concrete. Designed by architect Karel Hubáček with contributions from Otakar Binar (interior design) and structural engineer Zdeněk Patrman, the tower took three years to design (1963–1966) and seven years to construct (1966–1973). The distinctive tapered shape was chosen both to harmonize with the mountain's silhouette and to withstand the extreme weather conditions at the summit. The hotel and restaurant occupy the tower's lower sections, while its gallery and dining facilities offer vistas extending to Poland and Germany. Replacing two wooden structures that burned in the 1960s, the tower has become a landmark of the North Bohemian landscape. Recognized as a Czech cultural monument since 1998 and a national monument since 2006, it was nominated to UNESCO's World Heritage Tentative List in 2007, and Hubáček received the International Union of Architects' Perret Prize in 1969 for the design.
