The Julia Ideson Building is a Mediterranean Revival structure in downtown Houston that serves as part of the city's Central Library system. Named for Julia Bedford Ideson, the Houston Public Library's first head librarian who held the position for 40 years, the Spanish Renaissance-style building was completed in 1926 and functioned as Houston's sole main library until 1976. Today it houses the system's archives, manuscripts, and Texas and Local History departments, as well as the Houston Metropolitan Research Center. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark.
