Kallil Temple, a Hindu–Jain sanctuary carved from living rock in Ernakulam district, Kerala, stands among South India's most ancient temples. Located eight kilometers from Perumbavoor and accessible via a seventy-step ascent, the temple crowns a massive stone outcropping within a twenty-eight-acre plot. The site's name derives from the Malayalam word *kallil*, meaning "in stone," reflecting its distinctive rock-cut architecture. Designated a State Protected Monument under Kerala's Department of Archaeology, the temple has long been administered by the Kallil Pisharody family, whose control over the sanctuary has shifted through agreements with religious institutions, including a period under Chenkottukonam Sree Ramadasashramam before reverting to family stewardship.
