Located at the corner of Main Street and Clinton Avenue in Kingston, New York, the Kirkland Hotel is a rare surviving example of a wood-frame urban hotel, built in 1899 in Tudor Revival style. The late-nineteenth-century structure served multiple functions across the decades: following its original purpose as a hotel, it became a popular local restaurant from the mid-twentieth century until the early 1970s. After its closure, the building fell into disrepair and faced potential demolition before being redeveloped into office space and apartments. Recognized as a contributing property to the Kingston Stockade District, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002 and subsequently received a statewide preservation award for its successful rehabilitation.
