Kviknes Hotel, located in the village of Balestrand along Norway's Sognefjord, is a hotel complex begun in 1913 by architect Franz Wilhelm Schiertz. The original historic building, constructed in Swiss chalet style, was Norway's largest wooden building upon its completion and contains 25 rooms; it stands alongside a modernist concrete wing from the 1960s that houses 165 rooms, bringing the hotel's total capacity to 195 rooms. The hotel is distinguished by its commitment to art and culture, featuring valuable paintings and hosting the jazz festival Balejazz. Additional amenities include a conference and banquet hall completed in 2008 with capacity for up to 450 people, multiple function rooms, and dining establishments. The hotel is a member of De historiske, the Norwegian association of historic hotels and restaurants, and shares a long history with the nearby "English Church," a distinctive dragestil structure.
