A 205-metre residential skyscraper in Toronto designed by Daniel Libeskind, the L Tower exemplifies deconstructivism through its angular forms. Beginning construction in October 2009, the project experienced significant delays, notably from a stop-work order prompted by safety concerns about the building's top-mounted crane, which many residents found visually intrusive. The cranes were ultimately removed by May 2016 and September 2018. Despite these setbacks, the completed tower earned eighth place in the 2017 Emporis Skyscraper Award. The project emerged from a preservation initiative that protected the adjacent Sony Centre for the Performing Arts, which was slated for demolition before the Hummingbird Centre's CEO secured the site's future alongside the condo development.
