2 World Trade Center, a 403.3-meter skyscraper designed by architect Bjarke Ingels in the deconstructivist style, is under construction in Manhattan as part of the rebuilt World Trade Center complex. The tower will replace the original 2 World Trade Center, completed in 1973 and destroyed in the September 11 attacks, while occupying the site of the former 5 World Trade Center. Its structural frame employs reinforced concrete, steel, and aluminium, with glass forming the exterior envelope. Foundation work was completed in 2013, and American Express announced in 2026 that it would develop and occupy the tower as its new headquarters, with construction scheduled to begin that year and completion targeted for 2031.
