One World Trade Center, the main building of the rebuilt World Trade Center complex in Lower Manhattan, is the tallest structure in the United States and the seventh-tallest in the world, standing 541.3 meters high. Designed by David Childs of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill in collaboration with Daniel Libeskind, the 94-story postmodern and contemporary skyscraper was completed in 2014 on the northwest corner of the 16-acre site, replacing the original 6 World Trade Center destroyed in the September 11, 2001 attacks. Its height of 1,776 feet references the year of American independence. Constructed of steel, reinforced concrete, aluminum, and bulletproof glass, the tower became New York City's tallest building in April 2012 and opened to the public on November 3, 2014, with One World Observatory following in May 2015. The building anchors a broader reconstruction effort that includes four additional high-rise office buildings, the National September 11 Memorial & Museum, and the World Trade Center Transportation Hub.
