Completed in 2006, 7 World Trade Center is a 52-story office tower in Lower Manhattan designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and developed by Larry Silverstein. Built on a city block bounded by Greenwich, Vesey, Washington, and Barclay Streets, the 225-meter structure was constructed to replace the original World Trade Center building destroyed in the September 11 attacks; its smaller footprint allows a public park to occupy reclaimed space across Greenwich Street. The design prioritizes safety through a reinforced concrete core, wider stairways, and enhanced fireproofing, while incorporating extensive green building strategies that earned the structure LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council as part of its pilot program for core-and-shell development.
