The La Pila fountain, erected in 1562 in the central square of Chiapa de Corzo, Chiapas, is a striking example of Mudéjar architecture attributed to Dominican friar Rodrigo de León. Built of brick in a distinctive diamond form, the structure measures fifty-two meters in circumference and rises twelve meters high. Its design features eight arches beneath a cylindrical tower, which occasionally served as a watchtower, blending Moorish aesthetic principles with practical function in this colonial Mexican setting.
