Outside Leeds Minster on Kirkgate stands Sir Edwin Lutyens's War Cross memorial to the Leeds Rifles, unveiled on Remembrance Sunday, 13 November 1921. One of only fifteen instances of Lutyens's distinctive War Cross design and the sole example commissioned by a regiment, the memorial originally commemorated members of the Leeds Rifles who fell in the First World War. It was later expanded to include those lost in the Second World War. Now grade II listed, the monument remains a significant architectural and historical landmark in the centre of Leeds.
