The Lightner Museum occupies the Hotel Alcazar, a Spanish Renaissance Revival building completed in 1887 in downtown St. Augustine and designed by the prominent architectural firm Carrère and Hastings. Now housing a collection of American Gilded Age antiques, the structure exemplifies Mediterranean Revival aesthetics and remains listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
