The Alcazar Hotel, built in 1923 in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, is a Spanish-Moorish Revival structure designed by architect Harry T. Jeffery. Inspired by celebrated Florida hotels of the same name, the building features a striking interior courtyard with a covered arcade, decorated with colored glazed tiles and a central fountain, embellished by sculptors Fischer and Jirouch. The hotel became a destination for prominent entertainers, including Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Mary Martin, Bob Hope, and Jack Benny—and legend holds that Cole Porter composed "Night and Day" during a stay here. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, the Alcazar underwent conversion to a retirement home and later to apartments, though recent ownership changes have brought renewed plans to restore its original ground-floor public spaces.
