Located in the historic Lonban quarter of Esfahan in Isfahan Province, the Lonban Mosque is a Shi'ite place of worship whose architectural heritage spans multiple Persian dynasties. While its current structure dates to the contemporary era, the building retains significant artistic elements from the Safavid period, including plaster work and paintings. The mosque features an extraordinary wooden minbar considered among the finest decorative works of the Safavid dynasty, while later inscriptions adorning its portal represent the calligraphic artistry of Mohammad Reza Emami. The mosque also holds historical significance as the burial site of Aboutorab Esfahani, a celebrated Safavid-era calligrapher. Designated an Iranian National Heritage property in 1937, the structure employs traditional materials of tile, plaster, brick, and wood characteristic of Persian mosque design across the Rashidun, Safavid, and Qajar periods.
