Built in the historic Travis Heights neighborhood of central Austin, the Louis and Mathilde Reuter House is a private limestone residence that exemplifies Spanish Colonial and Mission Revival architecture. Constructed by local entrepreneur Louis Reuter—who arrived in Austin in 1918 and established the city's first self-service grocery store—the home features an unusual U-shaped design punctuated by Palladian windows. Rather than follow a precise blueprint, Reuter built from a simple footprint marked on the property, a method that allowed the preservation of the grandiose old oak trees already standing on the site. Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987, the house stands at 806 Rosedale Terrace.
