Magdalenenstraße is a U-Bahn station on Berlin's U5 line, designed by Swedish architect Alfred Grenander and opened in 1930. Located in the Lichtenberg district, it exemplifies modernist underground station design with its distinctive green wall panels and painted columns. The station was briefly closed in 1945 and underwent renovation in 2004–05. Today, it features twenty abstract artworks by East German artists Wolfgang Frankenstein and Hartmut Hornung, installed in 1986 to commemorate the history of the German workers' movement. These paintings were nearly obscured by advertisements in 1995 until Berlin's cultural authority intervened to preserve them.
