Perched on the summit of Masada in Israel, this Byzantine church survives today only as ruins. Built in the Byzantine architectural tradition, it stands as evidence of the religious life that flourished on the fortress plateau during the Eastern Roman period, before the site was eventually abandoned and left to the desert.
