The Mayflower Hotel, a Beaux-Arts landmark in downtown Washington, D.C., occupies a prominent position on Connecticut Avenue NW, two blocks north of Farragut Square. Designed by the architectural firm Warren and Wetmore, it stands as the largest luxury hotel in the city and the longest continuously operating hotel in the Washington metropolitan area. Known as the "Grande Dame of Washington" and the "Hotel of Presidents," the Mayflower earned the distinction of President Harry S. Truman's second-favorite address in the capital, after the White House itself. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places and in the District of Columbia Inventory of Historic Sites, the hotel remains a four-star establishment and charter member of Historic Hotels of America, rivaling nearby establishments such as the Willard InterContinental and Hay–Adams Hotels.
