Located at the northeast corner of Swanston and Collins streets in Melbourne's city centre, the Melbourne Town Hall is the administrative seat of the City of Melbourne and home to the offices of the Lord Mayor and city councillors. Completed in 1887, the building was designed by architect Joseph Reed in a blend of Victorian, Second Empire, and Neoclassical styles, employing freestone and bluestone as primary materials. Beyond its civic functions, the Town Hall serves as a vital cultural venue, hosting concerts, festivals, theatrical productions, and exhibitions. Recognized for its historical, architectural, aesthetic, and social significance, the building was added to the Victorian Heritage Register in 1974. The site stands on the traditional lands of the Wurundjeri people.
