Mentmore Towers is a 19th-century English country house built between 1852 and 1854 in Mentmore, Buckinghamshire, for Baron Mayer de Rothschild, the banker and art collector. Designed by Sir Joseph Paxton and his son-in-law George Henry Stokes in the Jacobethan style—a 19th-century revival of Elizabethan and Jacobean architecture—the mansion served both as a family residence and a showcase for its owner's celebrated fine art collection. Described as one of the greatest houses of the Victorian era, Mentmore later passed to Hannah Primrose, Countess of Rosebery, and remained with the Earls of Rosebery until 1974. The house and grounds are Grade I listed, while the park and gardens hold Grade II* status. Though the estate's contents were auctioned in 1977, the mansion itself has since changed hands multiple times and now hosts the Mentmore Golf and Country Club.
