The Mercantile National Bank Building, a 31-story, 159.4-meter skyscraper completed in 1943, anchors the Main Street district of downtown Dallas. Designed by Walter W. Ahlschlager in the Streamline Moderne style of the Art Deco era, the tower features distinctive setbacks that ascend to a crowning ornamental four-sided clock and decorative weather spire. Originally built as the headquarters for Mercantile National Bank—which later became MCorp Bank—the building served as the principal component of a four-building complex eventually occupying an entire city block.
