The Deutsche Bank Building was a 39-story office tower designed by Shreve, Lamb & Harmon—the firm behind the Empire State Building—and completed in 1974 at 130 Liberty Street in Manhattan, directly adjacent to the World Trade Center site. Originally built as Bankers Trust Plaza, the 157.6-meter structure became a fixture of Lower Manhattan's skyline until the September 11 attacks, after which it remained closed due to contamination from the collapse of the South Tower. Deutsche Bank acquired the building in 1998 when it took over Bankers Trust. The structure was demolished between 2007 and 2011, with 5 World Trade Center subsequently planned to occupy the site as part of the World Trade Center's expanded footprint.
