U.S. Bank Tower, a 310.3-meter postmodern skyscraper completed in 1989 in downtown Los Angeles's Financial District, was designed by Henry N. Cobb of Pei Cobb Freed & Partners. Built at a cost of $350 million following its 1987 groundbreaking, the tower—locally known as Library Tower and formerly the First Interstate Bank World Center—ranks as California's third-tallest building and Los Angeles's second-tallest. Its striking silhouette has made it one of the city's most recognizable landmarks, frequently featured in establishing shots for films and television programs set in Los Angeles.
