The Bank of China Tower stands in Central, Hong Kong, at 1 Garden Road, a striking 367.4-meter skyscraper designed by Chinese-American architect I. M. Pei and L. C. Pei of I. M. Pei and Partners. Completed in 1990 after five years of construction on the former site of Murray House, the tower is instantly recognizable for its distinctive geometric form—triangular frameworks clad in glass and aluminium curtain walls. At the time of its completion, it was the tallest building in Hong Kong and Asia, the first supertall skyscraper built outside the United States, and the first to exceed 305 meters in height. The building, which includes a 52.4-meter spire, was surpassed in 1992 by Central Plaza on the same island and now ranks as Hong Kong's fourth-tallest structure. Its steel-column design and location between Cotton Tree Drive and Garden Road make it accessible from the nearby MTR Central station, serving as headquarters for the Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited.
