The Mesa Historical Museum, which opened in 1987 in Mesa, Arizona, preserves the city's history through exhibits ranging from comprehensive overviews of local development to replicas of early adobe schoolhouses and extensive collections of historic agricultural equipment. The museum's structures themselves constitute its most significant artifacts: the main building, constructed in 1913–1914 as the Lehi School, anchors a two-building complex that also includes an auditorium built during the 1930s as a Works Progress Administration project. Both structures were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2001. The museum gained further regional prominence with its 2008 exhibition "Play Ball: The Cactus League Experience," documenting Arizona's role in spring training baseball, which subsequently expanded to multiple venues throughout Maricopa County.
