Miami–Opa Locka Executive Airport, located 11 miles north of downtown Miami in Miami-Dade County, Florida, is a joint civil-military general aviation reliever airport serving the region. Originally developed as Naval Air Station Miami during World War II, it retains active military presence through Coast Guard Air Station Miami, which operates HC-144 Ocean Sentry turboprops and MH-65 Dolphin helicopters for coastal patrol and air-sea rescue operations. The airport's distinctive Moorish Revival architecture reflects its historical design. Today, the facility—owned by Miami-Dade County and operated by the Miami-Dade Aviation Department—supports general aviation through four fixed-base operators and serves cargo and charter airlines utilizing customs facilities; several aviation firms conduct heavy maintenance and modification of airliners up to Boeing 747 size at the site.
