The MIT Chapel, a non-denominational house of worship dedicated in 1955 and completed the following year, stands on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology campus in Cambridge as a notable achievement of mid-century modern design. Architect Eero Saarinen created this intimate building as part of a larger campus ensemble that includes the adjacent Kresge Auditorium and Kresge Oval, for which he was also responsible. Despite its modest scale, the Chapel has earned recognition as a successful example of American modernism of the era, with Saarinen extending his vision to the landscaping that surrounds all three structures.
