Perched on the summit of Mount Tibidabo in Barcelona, the National Expiatory Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a Roman Catholic minor basilica whose construction spanned nearly six decades, from 1902 to 1961. Designed by the Catalan architect Enric Sagnier and completed by his son Josep Maria Sagnier i Vidal, the church marries Byzantine Revival and Gothic Revival architectural styles. Built from Montjuïc stone, the basilica serves as both a Catholic pilgrimage church and parish sanctuary, its prominent hilltop location making it a defining landmark of the Barcelona skyline. The structure is recognized as a Cultural Asset of Catalan heritage and maintains urban protection status.
