The General Staff Building, headquarters of the Russian Armed Forces' General Staff, rises on Arbatskaya Square in central Moscow. Designed by Mikhail Posokhin—who served as Moscow's chief architect from 1960 to 1982—the structure was constructed between 1979 and 1987. The building blends Soviet and postmodern architectural idioms, reflecting the transitional aesthetic of its era. Now recognized as a candidate heritage site in Russia, it stands as a significant example of late Soviet institutional architecture and represents Posokhin's major work in reshaping Moscow's urban landscape during his tenure as principal architect.
