Designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and completed in 1927, Norwich War Memorial is a First World War cenotaph in Norwich, Eastern England, and the last of Lutyens' eight such monuments to be erected in the country. The memorial comprises an empty tomb atop a low screen wall with a Stone of Remembrance, flanked by bronze flambeaux capable of burning gas. A disabled veteran unveiled the structure in October 1927, following a fundraising campaign that also supported local hospitals in memory of the dead. Relocated to a memorial garden between the market and City Hall in 1938, the monument underwent substantial restoration after structural instability was discovered in 2004; work completed in 2011 included rotating the memorial to face the city hall. Lutyens also designed a roll of honour listing the city's war dead, installed in Norwich Castle in 1931. Now a Grade II* listed building, the memorial was rededicated on Armistice Day 2011 and later recognized as part of a national collection of Lutyens' war memorials.
