Built in 1890–91 in Arkansas City, Kansas, the Old Arkansas City High School exemplifies the Richardsonian Romanesque style championed by architect Charles Sumner Sedgwick. Constructed of stone, the building's robust masonry and characteristic rounded arches reflect the architectural movement of its era. Now called Ireland Hall and integrated into the Cowley Community College campus at 300 W. Central Street, the structure was recognized for its historical significance when it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
